香港理工大學
Applicants from a university where the language of teaching /instruction /examination is NOT entirely in English should satisfy the minimum English proficiency requirements specified by both the University and individual Faculties.
Applicants who have not obtained a degree from a recognized university in which the language of instruction is English are normally required to obtain:

(i) a score of 6.0 or above in IELTS; or
(ii) a TOEFL score of 550 or above, a computer-based TOEFL (after 1998) score of 213 or above, or an internet-based TOEFL score of 79 or above.

All English language test scores are considered valid for five years after the date of the test.

香港大學
Applicants from institutions outside Hong Kong where the language of instruction and examination is not entirely in English should take one of the following English language proficiency tests:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (taken within a two-year period) (Institution code: 9671; Department code: 99)
Paper-based test - An overall score of 550 or above
- Additional requirement for applicants to the Faculty of Arts except the School of Chinese: 4 or above in the Test of Written English (TWE)
Computer-based test - An overall score of 213 or above
- Additional requirement for applicants to the Faculty of Arts except the School of Chinese: 4 or above in the Essay section
Internet-based test - An overall score of 80 or above
- Additional requirement for applicants to the Faculty of Arts except the School of Chinese: 25 or above in the Writing section

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (taken within a two-year period)
Arts Faculty: Band 7 with no subtest lower than 5.5
Other Faculties: Band 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5

Overseas General Certificate of Education (GCE)
International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)
Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language (CPE)
All Faculties: Grade C or above

香港科技大學
A satisfactory TOEFL score is normally required for non-local applicants whose mother tongue is not English.  For applicants with a degree obtained from an institution outside Hong Kong, satisfactory attainment in the Graduate Records Examination is normally required

English Proficiency Requirements

Applicants from an institution where the language of teaching is not English should satisfy the minimum English proficiency requirements specified by both the University and individual Faculties and Schools. The University’s minimum English proficiency requirement for research degree programmes is 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or 79 (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or an overall band score of 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Equivalent qualifications are also acceptable. 2.  In addition to the University's requirement as given above, individual Faculties and Schools have set a higher standard, or equivalent acceptable qualifications, suitable for their disciplines as follows:

Faculty of Business
a minimum TOEFL score of 580 (paper-based) or 237 (computer-based) or 92 (internet-based); or
other test scores that may be regarded as equivalent to TOEFL 580 (paper-based) or 237 (computer-based) or 92 (internet-based).

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based); or 6 (in any skill) with an overall band score of 6.5 in IELTS; or
band 6 in the Chinese mainland's College English Test; or
other test scores that may be regarded as equivalent to TOEFL 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based).
(Please note that individual Departments in the Faculty may adopt a higher standard.) 

Faculty of Science and Engineering  a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based); or
band 6 in the Chinese mainland's College English Test; or
other test scores that may be regarded as equivalent to TOEFL 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based).
(Please note that individual Departments in the Faculty may adopt a higher standard.) 

School of Creative Media  a minimum TOEFL score of 580 (paper-based) or 237 (computer-based) or 92 (internet-based); or
band 6 in the Chinese mainland's College English Test; or
other test scores that may be regarded as equivalent to TOEFL 580 (paper-based) or 237 (computer-based) or 92 (internet-based).
 
School of Law
a minimum TOEFL score of 580 (paper-based) or 237 (computer-based) or 92 (internet-based); or
a minimum overall band score of 7 in IELTS; or
band 6 in the Chinese mainland's College English Test.   (The School has stipulated a validity period of two years for results of the above tests. Applicants are required to provide their English test results obtained within the two years preceding their application.)

香港中文大學
? All students should fulfil the English Language Proficiency Requirement prescribed below before they are admitted:

? possess a pass grade in English in one of the following examinations
Hong Kong Advanced Level Exam. (AS Level)
Hong Kong Higher Level Exam.
CUHK Matriculation Exam., or

? have a degree from a university in Hong Kong or an English speaking country, or
? submit one of the following scores for assessment by the programmes concerned:
TOEFL
GMAT (Verbal)
College English Test (CET) of PRC
IELTS

? have obtained a recognized professional qualification awarded in Hong Kong or an English speaking country

Each Graduate Division may set further requirements, including a subject test or language test, and may also waive such additional requirements in particular cases.
